She is 15 lbs 7oz.
She is 26 1/4 inches.
She is now in the 50% for body weight and...
the 97% for head size.
So next month she has to go back to the doctor and get her head measured again. Just in case her head is getting too big. Now keep in mind her dad and I both have big heads...so it only goes to reason she would have one too.
We also have been told to start her eating veggies. So tomorrow I will be walking the isles of the expensive supermarket and buying a few different organic, nothing added but water baby foods. Then I can buy the whole veggie that she likes and make my own.
My baby is healthy and happy and has a really big head!

When life hands you lemons...
...you end up with a very puckered face.
So here is the deal. After last week of being sick and then getting a lay-off warning, I have now been informed that my childcare provider is changing occupations and will no longer be watching children after May 31st. Great. Just what we needed. A little more stress.
However there is a little speck of light in the darkness. I found another childcare provider who is not too far away who is willing to give us a slightly reduced tuition and she is available immediately. So the whole "we need to move by June 1st" has just been put off a little longer. That does not mean, however that we are staying in SC. Mr. C has submitted several job applications and we are waiting to see what will become of those. And once he has a secure position, we will be moving... to wherever we need to. It's just too expensive to live here any longer. Instead of moving forward, like we were, we seemed to have stalled out. An thus... It's time to move forward and out.

Proof the world does not revolve around me.
Aside from being home sick for the first half of the week with strep... I came in to work this morning to a meeting with my boss, the head of the department and the superintendent of schools. A good start right? And here's the deal while my position is still going to be funded in the upcoming school year, I might not be in it. Welcome to Unions. Here is the breakdown... if someone above me gets the ax they can say well fine, but I want my old job back and bump the person from that job. This can go all the way down the food chain to little old me. Sitting here at the bottom. Looking (once again) at a pink slip.
Suck.
Suck.

Weekend report.
This weekend was filled with activity (and healthy babies). On Saturday Melly and I went to Fremont to teach a sewing group. It was fun and Ms. M slept in the car both there and home. However the dogs that lived in the house where we were sewing barked and that sent her into fits of crying. After that we came home (and it took forever since it's beautiful here and everyone went to the beach) and went to go look at a house that is in our price range.
The house was beautiful. It was a bank foreclosure that was in the middle of a remodel when it was foreclosed on and so parts of it were not completed. However the parts that were done were great. The incentives the bank is offering are fantastic. However after talking it over by ourselves, both Mr. C and I have a strange (creepy) feeling about this place. So we are thinking it is probably not for us. But there are lots more to look at. So never fear.
On Sunday we went to the beach for the first time. (We were supposed to go look at more houses but found out late Saturday night that is wasn't going to happen.)Melly is in love with sand and had a grand old time standing in a shallow pool of water and flexing her toes in the sand. We then went over to the main part of the beach where there were waves and everything. She was not as impressed with the cold ocean water. Then she and her dad played in the shallow pool a little more. When they came back to the blanket Melly played in the dry sand with both her hands and feet. She was quite pleased with herself until she tipped over and got sand in her mouth.
So we wiped her down and fed her and we were off and running downtown. Stopped to have a quick bite to eat and then home. Our tired little girl has been passed out since about 4pm (which doesn't bode well for sleeping tonight.) However she still needs a bath. So we might wake her for cleaning and food.
And in that vein... Some bath photos...
Everything was going well...
Until we washed her head.

It must be love.
Tonight I learned exactly what it means to be in love with your baby. It means that if you come swooping in to give her a kiss on the mouth and she happens to throw up a little in your mouth, you don't get upset. In fact you start laughing about as hard as you can while quickly washing baby puke off your tongue. That's true love. And only slightly, OK completely, disgusting.
In other news... I found out today exactly what it takes to get a teaching credential in CA after Peace Corps service. And what is that, you might ask...Well, you need a written and signed statement from the Country director saying that you taught school for more than 50% of your time in country and a BA or BS from an accredited college. That's it kids. And guess what. I have both of those. When I found that out today I started feeling like I was a marathon runner who got within sight of the finish line and decided that she had had enough and walked off the race course.
Unfortunately, with the pending budget cuts, it is not a good time to go into teaching here in CA. But perhaps it is something I should look into. Perhaps I might have fun teaching Kindergarten or first grade. Perhaps I have finally settled down to do what I have been saying I was going to do from the time I was a little girl.
(Now, getting from the preliminary credential to the clear credential requires jumping through a ton of hoops, including going through the program that I currently work for, but it might be fun. It would probably be worth it.)
And now I am going to use some mouthwash and put the baby to bed.
